Definitely worth checking all the high power connections, earth and +ve.
If you don't find a solution, I would probably do the same and hold off buying a battery until next year if you think the coldest part of your winter is over.
Lead acid battery performance is highly dependant on temperature as the chemical reaction required to release the energy does not work as well at low temperatures. - battery capacity reduces by about 1% for every degree below +20C.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Does anybody have a wiring schematic for the earth points?

Errr, only for a full-mux, and they're not amazingly useful either.

You'd probably be better off just following the cables...
