Sucks to hear about the roof! - Slate allways costs a bomb to fix...
Not many slate rooves in Sydney due to the age of the housing stock here - alot of it was converted to Terracotta back in the 1930's, a shame really because Slate sure does look cool...you still see a bit of it in the inner city!
We got a really bad hail storm in Sydney back in 1999 - I remember alot of people had tarpoulans over their rooves to keep some of the rain out...I'd suggest getting it fixed ASAP as there is alot of wiring in the roof, wouldnt want to cause a fire if water is getting in there!!!
As for beer - You should come to Australia for a beer tasting weekend.....

Supa, welcome back
Your roof - I would go down the housing grant route. Your local council will be able help here, there may be a lot of paperwork and proof of income etc but I'm sure they will be able to do something and also they will be able to procure a *proper* contractor.
Then, when it's all fixed we'll all be round for tea and cakes

No mate, you don't beat us on beer. Australian beer is like making love in a canoe...
C'mon DaiRees - There is more to Australian beer than Fosters!
You obviously need some serious beer education - Pull your socks up!
