bsi fault???

Post by rigsby29 »

ive had a look at the 406 hdi 1999 ive just bought & found a few faults
1. the ignition lights stay on with the key removed
2. if you disconnect the battery them reconnect it the mileage briefly reads 923700.00 then goes to 0000 with a spanner next to it & 000000 underneath it
3. it turns over but will not start
4. you can turn the heater on with the key out
5. the rdio will not turn on with or without the key

any ideas

Beeping sort of sounds like an immobiliser. My petrol D8 would do that if I mis-keyed the code.

However yours is a D9, so no keypad. Also diesel so different there too.

If you open up the key - is the RFI chip in there?

Just opened up my D9 key to show the coded RFI chip for the car.

The chip is in red and it fits in the area in blue.

Had some of the symptoms you have.

First off stip out the ignition barrel and have a look at the switch. mine disintegrated and stuck at poisiton 2.

The key being lit up is almost certainly the immobiliser although my did this after the switch disintegrated.

If you need to get a new key coded, look at around £26 to have the original code ordered from peugeot and £120 for the key including coding and cutting.

good luck.

just spoke to a mechanic at peugeout & he has told me to lift the drivers carpet back & check the 3 connectors under neath the throttle pedal as he is 99% sure that they will be corroded & causing the fault.
i will check this on sat & let you know

well i removed the carpet yesterday to check the wiring plugs underneath the throttle pedal hoping they were corroded but they are fine so i have removed the bsi & am sending it away to be checked & repaired 2moro.

hope that will get the car running again

it'll be in limp home mode for some reason.

you need to get the fault codes read.
