Replacing the roofrail 02-406-90-estate
Hi There,
I have been trying to find a replacement roof rail for my 406 estate (2002) but I cant seem to get hold of one anywhere. Has anyone done this, where did you get a roofrail was it easy to fit?
Many thanks in advance.

Errrm, dare I ask..... oh sod it!
What have you been up to to break a roof rail???
There were a pair on ebay last year, some breaker had them. £50 for the pair plus about £20 shipping IIRC. I toyed with the idea of getting them and painting them silver when I was going through a "bling my ride" phase (didn't fancy trying to paint the ones on the car in situ). I then discovered how hard it it to remove the headlining in a 406 estate so that they could be swapped over, and that idea promptly dies a death
.
If you can't get one, you could always make it out of wood.... oh no that only works on Volvos doesn't it....
Welcome by the way!

Hi there. As far as I know, no-one on here's done that, the only guy with a broken roofbar we had on here had far worse things to worry about (in the end he gave up and went over to the dark side...)
What I would suggest is to get one from the breakers, don't shoot me if I'm wrong but I can't see any difference between early and late cars (I have both) so all you need to do is find A 406 estate (I've never seen one without roof bars). You'll almost certainly have to pull the sides of the roof lining down and this is meant to be a pig to do without creasing it, so get some practice in on a car in the breakers first

Didn't we decide that the "correct" procedure involved removing both rear side windows and the windscreen?

Re: Replacing the roofrail 02-406-90-estate
yes it does to do it correctly only other way i can see is to release
the sides of lining and slide your hand in but am sure that will result
in needing a new roof lining

That's a bit of a bastard. I'd still be tempted to give it a go on one in the breakers, maybe you can take the trim, handles and door rubbers off and get a hand in there. I presume they're a couple of nuts on each one. Best of luck anyway, the alternative is a stack of cash I'm afraid.

Are the tubes just slotted in? The reason I ask is that the middle stans...stant... fuggit, bracket looks like the only one you can get off without major hassle.

What about wrecking a breakers yard estate's roof lining to find where the fixings are, then just cut some small X's in your roof lining over the fixings...

Check the 1st reply to the thread - you've been beaten to it by a considerable margin
