Multi Function Display Light Dead

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Multi Function Display Light Dead

Post by 406HU »

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to change the multifunction display light bulb (the display where the radio and the computer readings are showing) and which bulb(s) to use? This is a '99 D8 exec with the 6 CD changer in the back.

It switched on a few times after I've pressed the display but no longer :( During the day it is so-so visible, but at nights I cant see crap...

Thanks.

Carefully prise the display out of the dash. There are 2 bulbs IIRC, they're in little plastic holders, you need to turn the holder a quarter turn then pull it out, I always found a needle nosed pliers good for this. You buy the bulbs complete with the holders.

Dai - what would you recommend to use to do this?

I'll sneak in and answer this!
Small flat headed screwdriver on either side of the display. If you're gentle it'll pop out without marking the plastic.

Mmmm, I usually find a small tool such as this puts a little nick in the plastic edge?

I must have been lucky!
You could always use a lolly stick or plastic picnic knife I suppose.
Or if you're really keen take the vent surround out and push it out from the back! :cheesy:

Can't remember what I used to use, It's 6 years since I had a D8  , I'd have guessed I just went at it with a screwdriver though - carefully! :?

It worked for me, the trip comp isn't held in that tightly.
