It's personal preferefence mate, but I reckon that'd look pretty naff  . How about a long, thin strip of the stuff right along the bottom edge of the bumper? Edit: no scratch that! Reflective tape is not allowed, see here.

Hmmm, so you have to have 2 symmetrically placed. I'd try to get some long thin rectangular ones and fit them on the lip at the bottom of the bumper, either side of the towbar, although practically you want them as close to the corners as possible so that people don't take a corner off your parked car at night.....

Or, get hold of loads of the eyes out of cats eyes..... :cheesy:

A suggestion put them on the lower part of the bumper like you see on some fords and vauxhalls 8)

think i have found a way round it now it doesnt say anywhere about having a white reflector on the rear as long as you have a red reflector on the rear so i got myself some of these
Image
and gonna stick them on the bottom of the boot lid next to rear lights and i dont think i'll bother spraying the white reflectors.

The MOT site thingy wrote:Information
This inspection applies to: obligatory rear reflectors only. That is, those required by Regulation to be fitted.
Each vehicle is required to be fitted with two reflectors, one on each side fitted symmetrically

Method of Inspection
1. Check that the required amount of reflectors are fitted.
2. Check that the reflectors are
a. facing to the rear
b. the correct colour
c. in good working order and clean condition

Reason for rejection
1. There are less than the required amount of reflectors facing to the rear or where two are fitted they are not symmetrical.
2. A reflector
a. not facing the rear
b. not red in colour
c. not in good working order or not in clean condition, ie so damaged or deteriorated that its function is impaired
...and apart from that, as has already been mentioned, it's dangerous and could be confusing to other road users.

I think you'd better cover over the white ones mate....

It does not say anywhere, except in the legislation!!!
Parliament wrote:No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light
There is a long list of exceptions, white reflectors on a private car is not in the list.
Parliament also wrote:Material designed primarily to reflect light is, when reflecting light, to be treated for the purposes of these Regulations as showing a light.
So reflectors are lamps for the purposes of the regulations.

And that is the also the opinion of the guys who can take your money or your car

Dai, I was going to go with the simple you answer you gave, but then read that MOT site very carefully.
That MOT site talking about reflectors wrote:This inspection applies to: obligatory rear reflectors only. That is, those required by Regulation to be fitted.
Each vehicle is required to be fitted with two reflectors, one on each side fitted symmetrically
Noting that only the obligatory reflectors are tested, and it not saying anthing about additional lighting. I could understand Damo's point.

just had a thought, so are chrome lexus lights illegal ? cos when your behind someone with these on the bak lights you can see the white reflection of your head lights? so does that mean i could in theory get away with not covering the white reflector?

I think it's one of those grey areas. The lexarse lights are manufactured as such but yours will look as though they've had the outer red shell chopped off. As you say I'd either spray the reflectors or dull the surface so they don't reflect :?

The lexarse lights are manufactured as such
but it still doesnt stop the fact that they reflect white light from the rear just cos they are made that way though?

Would you argue that point with Mr Plod though?
You're not really going to know until you take your car out on a saturday night with the rozzers all over the place.

Is that why they don't make cars with chrome bumpers any more?

The legislation sheds some light on this.

Just because somethng is sold, does not mkae it legal.

How many number plates have you seen today that breach the regulations?

Increasingly I have noticed non reflective "silver on black" plates. If they are not on vehicle registered at the appropriate time they are illegal!
