The flushing just leans all the Diesel crap from the oil ways. Every single main dealer will flush your engine oil before a change. I did mine with some Forte and it was the same as pooring neat Diesel fuel into the hot rocker cover :o then running the car for 2 miles nice and hot and draining the lot straight away.

To be fair the "new" oil stays clean for a couple of week before it starts getting black streaks in it.

Can't you get your next batch of visitors to smuggle you in 5 bottles of the stuff?

Oh and Supa - the photo was the arty farty misty shot :cheesy: 8)

Why would someone in America want Galaxy when they can get Hersheys???

I really appreciate the offer but It'd cost a few quid and take an age to get here and I really should see if I can get the stuff here before I go costing you dosh. I've never actually bothered with the stuff before because I always assumed it was just another gimmick. If I can't get any then expect a grovelly pm :cheesy:

Sounds like Zagreb, I like the gate thing, I think it's usually gate 21 for UK flights but whatever the number you always end up in the same place 'cos there's only the one...

Supa, I think this computer may start giving trouble and make you untracable (especially when you find it's fuse :cheesy: ) Remember to put it back in though, it's a safety thing and we'd hate to loose you to some nutcase.

It's got to be something simple supa :?

Have you considered coughing up for a pukka "Global Test" at a dealer?

I don't think that's going to be a drive shaft, they usually make a load of clonking driving forwards or backwards with the steering on full lock. Then again maybe you have more, umm, experience.

Hi
I replaced my dual mass flywheel recently and I had noticed the turbo was shedding oil to the bottom of the intercooler some time ago so I decided to replace the Turbo whilst I was at it. The turbos usually leak before they eventually pack in and the flap valve inside also starts to fail which means there is no pressure build up ( this is controlled by a vacuum valve just to the left and rear of the engine (406 HDi) To get the turbo off you need to drop the subframe which I did easily on my garage floor. Then you can get at the thing easily. The main reason I chose to do it now was because you have to take down the subframe to replace the clutch and flywheel any way so I saved a lot of work. The Turbo cost me £350
and would take about 4 hours of work. Now if you choose to do this yourself there a some essential precautions to take when you refit the new one - work scrupulously clean, ensure there is plenty of oil squeezed into the turbo bearings then put everything back together. Before you start the engine disable all injectors and turn engine over to get the oil pressure up ( These turbos whistle around at 45,000 rpm and get very hot.
Now I thought my turbo was functioning ok but I can tell you the pressure readings are well up according to my scanner and the performance is stunning - I believe now that the little relieve valve was not sealing properly even though I had checked the vacuum and noted that it was working.
Hope this helps

Maybe if HDi turbo's don't actually fail they just get really worn, whistle alot, and don't produce as much boost :(

Mine's a massive whistler

Hi all,

This seems a bit strange that my turbo looks like it's fooked today too! I just went and put £75 of unleaded into it because I've got a business trip next week and on the way out of the garage I had the windows down to hear the dumpvalve hiss and I got a small whistle from first to second gear and then major lack of power!!! "insert major crying here!!"

Got home and got under the bonnet and the dump valve is jammed open when running. Took the valve off and it closes, so it looks like the car is producing too much vacum (if possiable) and I can't hear the spooling when reving..!

I've got a mobile machanic on his way, but if he say's the turbo is buggered, what do I do? (btw... it's on old D8 exec 2.0 turbo) and I was just about to book it in to change the cambelt, I guess there are two major things on it that can go then..!

Any suggestions would be fantastic as I need something to get me around next week.

Many Thanks
Smelly-Ell

Yup, t'is official, the turbo has ceased, "it's not suckin' or blowin'"(mechanics words, not mine)! The small whistle I heard from it just before the lack of power must have been the bearings giving up..! But hey, at least it wasn't on the motorway.

So, would anyone be able to advise me on which turbo the stock 2.0L 8valve lump has as I think I've found one on e-bay which might fit and I want to make sure before I buy... Is it the same T25/T28 which is used on the nissan 200SX? Or are the flanges / brackets different. If not, would this one do? http://www.racerbits.com/catalog/TU-T25.jpg
It "looks" like the right one, but if it hasn't got the right fitting, well, you know the rest.

I've filled out the enquiries form on Essex Turbo's website and will see when they can get back to me, but I would like to get something sorted now as I'll have to 'find' someone to fit it on the cheapish.

Also, would it do any more damage if I ran the car with the turbo ceased? As said on previous post, I need to do a 35mile motorway trip there and back every day next week, so I know it is underpowered, but at 70mph cruising on the motorway, would this cause more damage?

Many Thanks for anybodies input on this disaster recovery session.

I would say some negotiation would be in order - bearing in mind they didn't actually fix it first time round.
