*wipes vomit from chin*

Just had the news from my man.....

On TOP of all that stuff above I also need a new EGR (it's stuck open!) and the flexi downpipe + CAT need replacing (just because the flexi has gone) I must admit I have been smelling burnt diesel recently.

The air blaster is a hole in the lower intercooler hose apparenly finger-sized  (rubs on radiator bracket due to excess engine movement ala' knackered engine mount - take note everyone!) I don't suppose the exhaust fexi likes the engin movement too much either. All this for a £12.00 rubber insert :frown:

The upshot is £580.00 or £797.00 with the flex + CAT all plus Vodka and Tonic :( and this guy is *really* good to me we get on very well.

Farkinaida! And the car is worth...? (hint: more to you than anyone else)

So, this flexible hose is part of the cat? That seems rather short-sighted *heads off to Service Box*

I've just told him to do it all (the MOT's in January anyway - ala' exhaust leak).

I think I may be making history on here for a £936.48 bill :(

For any petrol viewers listening - £700.00 of this is PURELY down to the fact it's a Diesel, honestly, and largely down to the torque overwhelming the crappy rubber engine mount (get it done everybody).

Think about that when buying your next sub £2,000.00 406  I hope you do 50,000 miles a year.

Hey, that's £2,000.00 in repairs in 2 years 8 months :| and I still have no air con!

You may detect I am staying as positive as possible but I am looking forward to getting it back honest - I should then have the bestest HDi in the country 8) :| :(  :?

Ooh and the Trailing arm bushes are intact so he's looking into anti roll bar mounts as we speak, oh sh*t there's more money....

Yes, I will soon be the owner of an aftermarket CAT and downpipe for that very reason.

Supa had this go on hers. Funny thing is with Diesels it's quite hard to hear the eggsauce blowing but sat in traffic it smells like a coal stove :|

If you peer down the back of the engine you can just see this flexi on it's way down to the CAT.

I had much bigger bill than that! :( (was cylinder rebuild thou).

I had the same thing with the rear tyre and dodgy handling on mine (only spun it once in the wet, but nearly lost it a few times). Never figured it out, could never find any play in the bushes.

I doubt the anti roll stuff would cause the uneven tyre wear and tail happiness. My suspicion was there was some progressive movement in trailing arm, that let the wheel go out of line when cornering hard, basically the bush would compress/stretch a little under heavy load, but you could tell it from just pulling on the suspension arms.

He's reporting the trailing arms to be rock solid (in a good way) so I've told him to load up the back end, or sit in the back seat, and drive it over bumpy roads - I can hear it so they should. Don't really want it back without that fixing otherwise it will give me chest pains for sure!

Just had a progress report - the large intercooler hose is on back order from peugeot and won't be in until the 17th Oct (they've sold out across the country: hint hint) my old hose has been patched temporarily and the offending radiator bracket sawn off as it serves no real purpose

The EGR is on but now the aluminum link pipe appears to be cracked as it's failed a smoke test (they've been smoke testing my car via the intercooler to show leaks).

Engine mount is done (I'll show you all this soon) brake and oil servicing is done and new CAT on.

I am teh mastercardz bezt cuztomer

Well I'd just like to say I've got it back and Woo Hoo!! it is fantastic :cheesy:

I'm going to do a shiney new thread about it all but my god the new engine mount makes a MASSIVE difference to the driving! clutch judder is all but gone, down-changes are super smooth, slow driving is super smooth it honestly feels like a brand new car!

And the power is tip top it's really fast! the throttle response is no longer flat at low revs and there's a huge push at 2000 rpm (spun the front wheels in 2nd in the wet) this is down to the new EGR not being open and obviously the intercooler hose (which I'm still waiting on but has been heath robinson'd at the mo).

The car even has a new sound - a nice low gruff, zingy sound (maybe the new CAT etc?).

Soops - the new cat and down pipe were £217.00 fitted and they never moaned about it's fitting - maybe it's better quality? interestingly last year I mistakenly ended up with the top of the range eggsauce system for my car so maybe that helped ease the connections?

I'm pleased about reviving this car because for the sake of £900.00 I reckon I've got a 406 which is comparable (if not better) than a 2004 model in terms of service.

One slight bad news is that the rear sussy knock is the anti roll bar mounting points and to change the offside one requires the fufel tank to be dropped on the filler neck side que: possible dirt ingress :( he's doing some research for me to see if there's another way

Tomorrow I might try that brake disc bedding-in exercise that steve posted (5 increasingly hard stops from 60mph) not sure though - already seen smoke down there :|

Oh and my man said my HDi was the quickest he'd ever driven 8)
