Sorry, slip of the keys (ex-Citroen driver  )

It was cracked right next to the join, I had my suspicions so I had a look before we took it but I couldn't see anything and the man said they usually go on these joins, not on the pipe, he said that's the second time he's seen that ever (and he knew what car it was for before we told him...)

I've driven it a fair way this evening, the noise hasn't changed at all and neither has the level dropped :( Then nothing can be done until Wednesday or Thursday so I shall keep driving it - you never know.

(edit #3) Thinking about it, when the engine revs increase the noise deminishes, that would tally with air in the system compressing as the pressure increases. ßugger it, it's going for a nice long drive tomorrow

Pump doesn't have to be rediculously expensive, the one on my lad's golf had the bearings collapse. Cos it's a first car I just took one off another Golf, conveniently on the top tier in the local scrappy, rinsed it out a bit, fitted it, topped up & Robert's your mother's brother. £20 inc. fluid, still going 7 months on 8)
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The pump should be allright - it's not like you've driven it for 1000 miles or anything.

I had a PAS pipe split on the 2.1 605 and the pump made a god awfull noise which then went after new fluid was put back :|

You've doenthe full left - full right beed I assume?

I wasn't there the second time he filled it, reading Haynes last night you're meant to dry steer it from lock to lock to get the air out, then run it and do the same. I don't think he did that, maybe, like the strut bearing thing, it's ok on VWs but not on Pugs. Could be the oil's a mass of air bubbles...

Brief update ('cos I'm bored :cheesy: ) P/S still doing Wookie impressions, me and the mechanic spent 3 hours playing with the the hydraulics Saturday and only made things slightly worse. There is no air in there, it's just not possible. Then Monday I went to see another mechanic, he swears blind it's not the pump and suggests changing the hydraulic pipe for a real one (ouch!) as the only other time he had this was on a Pussat with a home-grown (or is that groan?) hydraulic pipe which cleared when they put the real thing on it. His guys also spotted the feed pipe from the reservoir is presurising (do what???) and is trying to straighten itself out, so I'm driving it waiting for this pipe to explode. I guess there's a valve on it somewhere but I'll be jiggered if I can see it.

I still think it's the pump but I guess I'd feel really silly if I changed it, only to find the noise still there. It's not been ordered from Pug, my mate has a factor for that sort of thing. The price isn't much better but they reckon they can get it here in a week, which is better than Pug or postage from the UK - oh yes it is the same pipe, after all that I looked again and I must have had the filter still on or something 'cos 4020TZ comes up:
TURBO DIESEL XUD11BTE AND UNVARIABLE POWER STEERING AND LEFT HAND DRIVE
TURBO DIESEL XUD11BTE AND UNVARIABLE POWER STEERING AND RIGHT HAND DRIVE

We also tried the only breakers in this part of the country, no prizes for guessing how we got on there

Looks like I forgot to give you guys an update, I ran out of AAAs for the keyboard and don't like using the one on the laptop itself.

Anyway...

902,63Kn later (about 120 quid to you) the noise is almost gone and I think I can only hear it now because I know what I'm listening for. So, I was wrong, the man from Karlovac was right - it was the pipe!
