HELP!! Electric seat not functioning properly

I put the driver's seat down for a kip early this morning only to find when I woke up it wouldn't come back up
The electrics work on the forward, backwards up and down adjustment on the seat base itself, just not the back of the seat
When twizzling the switch you can hear the motor engaging both ways but the seat back will not budge either way, so now it's stuck in a 45 degree position which apart from causing backache isn't exactly that safe
Please, can anyone point me in the right direction with regards to how to get into the seat itself to check and how I might be able to bodge it at least

You've probably thought of this, but I wonder if you've gone too far & the drive has disengaged. Try pushing the backrest up, while operating the drive?

I have that prob soops sounds like you have a partially stripped
cog

Is there any way of getting it past that point?

If pushing it up while working the switch didn't do the trick then I'm afraid it sounds like the cog is fully stripped

The base op had a look last night and he seems to think that it's cable operated (resembling a push bike brake cable) and the wire has snapped inside the sheath. He thinks it may be possible to bodge with a length of brake cable wire

Hi soops , after consulting haynes book of confusion it looks like its part
driven by a cable which looks like an old fashioned speedo cable with square
drive , and the tilt for the back has got a splined shaft . The cables are held in
with 2 clips so maybe one has pulled out

There's a set of 5 cables:

There are 4 gear/motor units:
00008920FN SEAT MOTOR £168.38 (with memory)
00008920V5 MOTORREDUCER £107.43 (without memory)
I can't see any clips or similar, so assume they're part of the above.
(This bit's guess work)
Rearmost motor = seat backwards / forwards
Cables for front 2 motors look the same = cushion up/down front + rear
Therefore 2nd from back = backrest tilt - this one shows 2 cables, like they connect to the seat at 2 points, maybe one's come off?

Reckon your best bet is to canabalise a seat from another car, service box gives different no.s for estates, but I can't see any difference.

While we are on the subject of electric seats does anyone have to keep
adjusting their's , like 2 or 3 times a week . When i get mine in just the
position i want , the back tilted slightly rearward i find a couple of days
later it has moved back up to near upright , does this a couple of times a week
and they are not memory seats

The non-memory versions are set up that way, so you'll want PROPER ones next time

By the way, it is a cable, it is hanging underneath the seat and is only attached one end, you can see the wire hanging out.
