PAS pipe leak

Post by mjb »

Looks like my PAS pipe is leaking at the joint where the solid pipe from the pump joins into a flexible section which drops down the engine. I've just had a look for the price of the joint on servicebox and discovered you can only buy the whole high pressure pipe... for £448    sod that!

I think I'm going to use some Araldite putty to cover up the whole joint (overkill ftw?) to seal it up. What's people's thoughts on this course of action?

mechanics isn't my thing but maybe a breakers yard or possibly if you have a decent engineering place near you they could repair / make something?

Oh bugger bugger bugger :( Remember this? I had a new pipe made but it gave me even more ag so I ended up with a pukka part. The pressure goes up to something like 80 bar so I don't think there's much you can do about sealing it. I thought mine was the joint but it turned out to be a small crack in it. I suppose it might be worth trying to get it repaired, use as much of the old one as possible and don't let them replace the valve.

I took a car for mot this morning, discussed the pipe with my mot guy, he told me they had a power steering pipe for a Jag repaired at a local hydraulics company, the cost was £35 quid plus vat.

Here is a list of your local people....there may be more, but this was just a quick look.

Mine appeared to weep a bit at the pump's solid pipe which loops down and becomes flexible, I used to give it a wipe every now and again but I never saw it dripping as such :|
