Since I cannot easily replace the rear speakers in my saloon, and after trying fruitlessly to fit standard 6x9's without shaking the shelf to bits, I decided to build a custom rear shelf. This will be made out of 18mm MDF and will fit it out with Diamond 6.5" woofers. Here's the preliminary work, which is simply a cut out of the shelf (it fits

). My carpentry skills are completely crap, so don't laugh....
I got a donor rear shelf from scrappers to build mine upon, since I would need to hack up the original shelf to fill the tricky gaps at the back and cover the front of the shelf where the seat belts go through.
Haven't figured out how to fix the shelf to the body of the car but will probably lay it on some blocks of wood and attach it to the metal shelf.
Not quite sure on the finishing bit, but will probably cover the whole lot in some foam wrap cushioning and finish it off with black vynil.
Just need to find my lost speaker rings...
Any tips/advice/abuse/etc..?
