New Nottingham member

Post by Col »

Hi Guys, I'm new to the site

I'm just about to take possession of a slightly tatty "P" reg 406 SRI, bought new by my dad many moons ago...

I'm hoping to pick up some useful advice so I can restore it back to it's former glory :cheesy:

mjb, am I right in thinking you also have / had a d8 sri ?

if so I will be hoping to pick your brain

I'm no stranger to French cars having owned a phase 2 Citroen Xsara VTS for the last 7 years.

It's been reasonably reliable, but it will be nice to run a simpler non multiplexed car :cheesy:

I had a turbo exec for a while - same car but without the vile trim  My dad's currently got one too (going to put it in my garage tomorrow to start work on it) and there's a few others here with them including Teamster

first problem - there doesn't appear to be any boost... where do I start looking ? :(

Funny you should say that, mjb has just started diagnosing the same on his Dad's tubby! Watch this space as they say...
It's possible that the boost actuator rod is stuck, can you hear the turbo spooling up?

to be honest, I'm not completely familiar with the car yet, so I'm not 100% sure what I should be listening out for

but I would say there is no noise that sounds like a turbo spooling up as far as I can tell.

It's a family car that I have had access to over the years, and it's definitely down on power from how I remember it...

First thing to do is grab hold of the large flexi-pipe going down from the charge pipe to the intercooler, and rev the engine hard from idle by pulling on the throttle body. If the pipe collapses inward, the turbo's seized and yo'll need to recon (there's a howto on here) or replace

Also give the car a good service and check things like the coolant level
