Air Bag Fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Air Bag Fault

Post by Doggy »

Got the dreaded bong! AIRBAG FAULT this morning

Happened while turning a corner, so I'm thinking steering wheel / comm2000 etc.

I tried turning it off later, removing ign. key / re-starting, but got the error straight away.

Now I've fixed dodgy connections under the seat on my previous Cistern and clearly this could be the same, but I just wondered if anyone else had had the same joyous experience with a multiplexed D9?

That's a new one on me :? sounds like something to do with the steering wheel area really. The under-seat wires just tend to bring up a quiet little light on the dash :|

Has yours got traction control? if so there's normally a steering angle sensor communicating with the ECU, throttle, ABS etc - don't know where the Air Bag comes into this but it is French

Might pay you to gingerly remove the steering wheel for a looksee? :supafrisk:

Otherwise this might be one of those faults that fixes itself 8)

Wouldn't he get an ESP warning (bong!)? Fiddle with those connectors under the seat, they seem to be the most common fault. My D8's AIRBAG light started flashing when I had it on full lock, I was certain that was going to to be the steering wheel clock spring thing but I had Pug test it anyway and it was the ECU...

No traction control or ESP AFAIK

Done a few more runs since then and it's consistent....bong! AIRBAG FAULT about 15 seconds after starting the engine.

I'll check all the connections under the seats as soon as poss.

One saving grace, at least after the inital warning, all I've got is a static 'AIR BAG' warning on the dash, which is a damn sight less prominent that the constant flashing light my Xsara had, or my bro's D8 - (even with a bit of insulating tape stick over it).

Progress?

May well just be the under-seat gubbins then.

Maybe with yours being a bit newer than most they introduced an MFD bong along with the dash light?

Have you got the 'Sausage Head' side airbag light? (I think it's Red?) some (including mine) appeared to be missing this one even though it says 'Side Air Bags' on the seat base itself.

I put the passenger leather in the other day, and the pre tensioner connector was different - wtf? - and had the air bag light flashing all the time, so whilst fitting the ali dash rings, I was the odd bulb short to light up the dash, so the air bag bulb was donated elsewhere

I can understand you doing that, but you might have problems come MOT time.
If I have to touch mine again, I'll do away with the connectors, as they're the only bit that ever seems to go wrong.

Another will get put in

Probably silly of me, as at least with that annoying light going away, i'd have to sort the connection out, whereas now I can procrastinate to my hearts content.
Maybe a job I could of done last night instead of taking off the B pillar decals, but ah, oh well
