Changed a few of these now, never had a problem with the ring.

Just use a big flat head screwdriver and a mallet to drift the ring around, then take the ring out (doesn't need cutting, just a bit of a wiggle)

Thanks all.

Stevieboy - the hole was smaller than the pump top plate - much smaller than the securing ring (though it was possible to get the ring into the space between the floor and the tank outboard of the pump location) ... .

Earwig - Good point about the tool, though the ring is indeed very robust.

My ring was tight!*
but a little manipulation and the application of heat softened it sufficiently for it to be **squashed allowing removal through the access hole.

The pump was a tight fit but it went in with some careful **wiggling and cursing, maybe the 110 is a bigger pump than the 90??

*(its my gift for the filthy minded members out there)
** technical terminology

P.S anybody got a mental image they cant shift yet?

That's a possibility, this is from a 90.

Service Box just says "diesel fuel without particulate filter", with an RPO of June 2001 even though it's the same pump :? I suspect one of these is an earlier, now defunct, pump.

WHen my pump goes odds are I'll be paying the full price, I don't really want to break the damn thing (just bluddy typical if I did too :( )

Yes looks different. Mine is the VDO pump - the securing ring is a big beefy thing, with two raised lugs which are oddly not opposite each other. Might even get a phot if I can, so you can see what a mess I have made of the metalwork - I think enough of the ring will show.

fwiw having done the job once I would have no hesitation in doing it again - not that I want to!
