Well the car is back at the doctors today and the news is that the Aux belt tensioner needs replacing (price of part is £79.00) plus a new belt plus a bit of labour; so about another £120.00

I'm so happy to be spending more money on this piece of sheet 8) 8)  :) :cheesy:

So let it cry, buy an air freshener and persuade everyone to butcher their a/c to save the planet.

I do agree, it is better the devil you know. Much like your 406 before it became a money pit :(

Cambelt Kit (hey let's fit another one 12,000 miles since the last one because the 'Car Supermarket' I got the car from didn't bother to change the idlers and just slapped a belt on resulting in a horrid howling noise from a dry bearing soon to colapse and throw the belt)

my 52 plate corsa was chain driven . did that not make it to the astra?? i got rid of that mainly for something bigger but also 2-3 hundred quid EVERY mot was not amusing, but it didnt get any attention 1 month to the next either...

But you know that once you'd replaced the clutch/dmf, fixed the diesel smell, and sorted the air con out, the car would have worked perfectly, and would probably still cost you less than the Astra is mugging you for now...

Well, maybe not, but you'd still have a car you'd feel good about maintaining. And you'd be a proper member of this club again :cheesy:
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

My Brother in law rang last night, his 2002 Astra 1.8 has blown the Alarm power sounder (been there with ours, means you can't lock the car, at all, until you pay £75.00 for a new one and fit it yourself  ) and his air con compressor spewed it, siezed up and smashed a hole through the pump casing leaving all the gas & oil pissing out

What do they call them? Poxhalls? :|
